Panda Bears

Way of life

Habitat

Pandas must live in habitats with plenty of bamboo forest to feed from. In addition to high volumes of bamboo, they must also have more than one species of bamboo to survive.

In their natural range, most bears live in mountainous regions or valleys. They will also move to various habitats to follow the growth of bamboo shoots, because leaves are much more nutritious, and grow at different altitudes in different seasons.

Diet

Unlike other bears, and other animals in the taxonomic order Carnivora, pandas are primarily herbivores. The vast majority of their diet consists of bamboo. Because it is so low in nutritional value, they must eat lots of bamboo to avoid starvation.

They will feed on 25 different species of bamboo, and prefer to eat leaves rather than stems. Pandas do, however, feed on fish, meat, or eggs when they are easily accessible.

Panda Bear and Human Interaction

The primary dangers to panda survival are habitat loss, poaching, and fragmented populations. Hunting of these bears has occurred for hundreds of years, primarily because their fur is so soft and strikingly colored.

As human populations increased, people began to develop more and more land. This reduced the usable habitat for pandas, causing additional decline. Conservation efforts were poorly conducted until the 1990s, and to this day pandas are still threatened with extinction. The IUCN Red List classifies pandas as Vulnerable.

Does the Panda Bear Make a Good Pet

No, pandas do not make good pets. Even though they are herbivores, they still have carnivore teeth and carnivore jaws. If angered, they could easily injure or kill. Additionally, it is highly illegal to own a panda as a pet.

Polar bears

Habitat

The polar bear's scientific name means "maritime bear." Polar bears are born on land, but they spend most of their lives on ice or open water in the Arctic. In fact, they can live as far south as Newfoundland Island.

Polar bears are found in five countries: Canada, the United States (Alaska), Denmark (Greenland), Norway (Svalbard), and Russia. Although penguins and polar bears are shown together at zoos or in the media, these two creatures don't typically meet: penguins live only in the Southern Hemisphere and polar bears live only in the Northern Hemisphere.

Diet

While many bears are omnivorous, polar bears are almost exclusively carnivorous. Seals are their primary prey. The bears can smell seals from up to a mile (1.6 kilometers) away and buried beneath 3 feet (0.9 meters) of snow. The most common hunting technique is called still-hunting. A bear locates a seal's breathing hole by smell, waits for the seal to surface, and drags it onto the ice with a forepaw to crush its skull with powerful jaws.

Polar bears also eat eggs, juvenile walruses, young beluga whales, carrion, crabs, shellfish, reindeer, rodents, and sometimes other polar bears. Occasionally, they will eat berries, kelp, or roots. The polar bears will eat garbage, including hazardous materials, such as motor oil, antifreeze, and plastic if they encounter such materials.

Bears are stealth hunters on land. They rarely attack humans, but starving or provoked bears have killed and eaten people.

As an apex predator, adult bears are not hunted except by humans. Cubs may be taken by wolves. Polar bears are susceptible to a variety of parasites and diseases, including mites, Trichinella, Leptospirosis, and Morbillivirus.

Human Interaction

The interactions between humans and Polar Bears have a long existence. Some of them have been good relationships and others seem to threaten the well being of the other. Early writings and oral stories passed along from generation to generation indicate that many cultures were very respectful of Polar Bears.

Does it Make a Good Pet

Polar Bears would be great to have as a pet because they can protect you. Notice with there big broad body and huge paws they can protect you from any intruder would be scared of your polar bear. They are only mean when they need to be, other than that they are the cutest little things.

  11. Lions

    Habitat

The Habitat Of Lions Lions are found in Africa in various habitats including woodlands, deserts, plains, and savannas. However, while lions are occasionally found in deserts and woodlands, they prefer to live in savannas and grassy plains.

    Diet

African lions eat large animals that they find in the grasslands, including antelopes, zebras and wildebeest. Asiatic lions eat large animals as well, such as goats, nilgai, chital, sambhar and buffaloes. They are also known to eat smaller animals.

    Human Interaction

Of all conflicts between humans and large carnivores, the most challenging involves the African lion. Since no major wildlife African ecosystem is completely fenced, lions attack thousands of livestock throughout the continent each year and lions kill over a hundred people a year in southern Tanzania and northern Mozambique.

Does it Make a Good Pet

No, they can injure or kill other small animals like dogs and cats. A person that has no experience or expertise in lions should not keep lions as pets. People with no expertise in lions should not take care of a lion because there is a chance that the lion will cause problems.

    fast facts

    1. Lions usually live in groups of 10 or 15 animals called prides.
    2. An adult male’s roar can be heard up to 8km away.
    3. A female lion needs 5kg of meat a day. A male needs 7kg or more a day.
    4. The name for a baby lion is a cub, whelp or lionet.
    5. Lions go on the hunt for food mostly from dusk till dawn. Female lions do 85-90% of the prides hunting, whilst the male lions patrol the territory and protect the pride.
    6. In the wild, lions live for an average of 12 years and up to 16 years. They live up to 25 years in captivity.
    7. Often known as the ‘king of the jungle’, most lions actually live in the savannah or grasslands. Just one population of wild forest-dwelling lions remains, in Gir Forest National Park, India.
    8. Female lions reach two-thirds of their adult size by the time they are two years old.
    9. Lions run at a speed of up to 81kmph.
    10. Lions hunt large animals such as zebra and wildebeest.

    11. Cheetahs

      Habitat

Cheetahs are tolerant of a wide range of habitats including shrublands, grasslands, savannahs, and temperate to hot deserts. Cheetahs largely stay on the ground but are known to climb trees on occasion.

As recently as 20,000 years ago, cheetahs had a near worldwide distribution and were one of the most widely distributed land animals on the planet. Cheetahs are now found widely but sparsely across Africa, although their populations have significantly disappeared from their historical ranges in the past. In Africa, for example, it's estimated that cheetahs are no longer found in 76% of their former historic range. Cheetahs likely only exist in 6% of their former range in eastern Africa but have most drastically declined in northern and western Africa.

Presently the Asiatic cheetah (A. j. venaticus) is considered restricted to Asia but today is believed to exist only in Iran. In the past, cheetahs in Asia were found from the shores of the Mediterranean and Arabian Peninsula, north to the shorelines of the Caspian and Aral Seas, and west through Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan into central India.

      Diet

Typical cheetah diet consists mainly of gazelles, especially Thomson's gazelles. They also take on impalas and other small to medium-sized antelopes. Sometimes, too, they prey on the calves of larger animals.

      Human Interaction

Wild cheetahs do not interact with humans, generally. Cubs may approach a human out of curiosity as a kitten would. Wild cheetahs are not safe to interact with on foot in the wild unless you are an expert.

Does it Make a Good Pet

The cheetah is on the Red List of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) under the vulnerable category, as roughly 6,700 mature individuals remain in the wild. Poaching is not the only threat to the species, which also suffers from conflict with humans—the cheetah is still often seen as a nuisance—and the destruction of its habitat. Formerly widespread in Africa and West Asia, the cheetah has disappeared from many countries such as India, Morocco, and Nigeria.

In Asia, the only country where you can still find cheetahs is Iran. In Africa, the main populations are found in Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe. In addition, declining populations and habitat loss have exposed the cheetah to a more pernicious threat—inbreeding. Thus, over the centuries, reproduction between related individuals has further weakened the species’ genetic heritage, making it more vulnerable.

      Dogs(Bockers)

      Trainability

Two factors shape the Bocker’s trainability, being firstly, their working heritage (energy and intelligence) and, secondly, a leaning toward independent thought. The latter shows itself as distracted and following a scent trial despite their owner’s recall.

      Diet

Pick food that is suitable for your pet’s age, activity levels, and size- usually, medium dog formula is a good choice. Bockers require about 1.5-2 cups of high-quality kibble per day (spread out between 2-3 meals) to keep them in top form. Don’t overfeed them as they are prone to obesity. The Bocker dog is a friendly, well-behaved dog.

      Human Interaction

The bocka is a very friendly so is a great human companion. It is very protective of its owners.

Does it Make a Good Pet

So, yes, the Bocker is a good family dog. Its many lovely qualities endear it to pet parents over and over. It is also patient and friendly with kids, though its energy may be too much for toddlers. As further proof that the Bocker is an ideal family dog, it tends to appear in any list of good dogs for first-time pet parents.
